Joseph Smith taught that "a man is saved no faster than he gets
knowledge" (HC 4:588).. and that "it is
impossible for a man to be saved in ignorance" (D&C 131:6).
Encyclopaedia of Mormonism, 1992.
If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would
be no salvation. There is no salvation outside the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-day Saints." (Doctrines of Salvation vol. 2 pp. 1-350)
Mormon doctrine on salvation is somewhat confusing -
apparently even to many Mormons! Mormon doctrine teaches that men have as many
as four types, or levels, of salvation open to them. In brief these are:
Resurrection - which
comes to all.
Gaining a level of glory
Gaining celestial glory
Exaltation
- actually becoming a God yourself.
Rather than go into lengthy line by line
comparison with Biblical truth, simply removing one or two foundational
blocks clearly exposes it as false salvation.
Mormon salvation is a future hope,
not a present gift from God. This 'salvation' is inextricably linked to
Joseph Smith. When two Mormons call at your door they will usually have the
Book of Mormon open at the picture of Joseph Smith to make their 'salvation
testimony'. They believe that Joseph Smith will sit alongside Jesus Christ
at the judgement. Smith and Christ are seen as inseparable.
"They do not seem to understand that every
principle connected with the Gospel is vital to salvation, and that if
we reject the Book of Mormon we reject the Bible; if we reject Joseph
Smith, we reject Jesus Christ who inspired and sent him; if we reject
Brigham Young as an Apostle, we might as well reject Peter, James and
John and the other Apostles who lived in ancient days! -
Journal of Discourses, Volume 9, page 310, Brigham Young, July 13th 1862
Biblical truth is that ALL authority was given to ONE
person only..
And Jesus came and spoke to
them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on
earth. (Matthew 28:18)
Biblical truth is that there is only One Name in which
there is salvation..
"Nor is there salvation in
any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by
which we must be saved." (Acts 4:12)
Jesus said to him, "I
am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through Me. (John 14:6)
"I am the door. If anyone
enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
(John 10:9)
In Mormon thinking God's grace is granted after you
rid yourself of all unrighteousness..
"..if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness,
and love God with all your might mind and strength, then is his grace
sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ" -
Book of Moroni 10:32
In Mormon thinking the more righteous you are the more
grace you are given..
"Grace is granted to men proportionally as they
conform to the standards of personal righteousness that are part of the
plan" - Mormon Doctrine - page 339
Biblical truth is..
And He said to me, "My grace
is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."
Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the
power of Christ may rest upon me. (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Moreover the law entered
that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded
much more, (Romans 5:20)
First, read the simple prayer below, and ponder it.
Then if you mean it from your heart pray it aloud. God
is listening!
It is a life changing declaration to God that you have
been in rebellion to Him, and that your sin has separated you from
Him.
As a free will choice, you are now laying down your rebellion
to Him,
turning away from your sin, and accepting that Christ's finished
work at Calvary was for you.
Where once you were the Lord of your
life, now you are making Jesus the Lord of your life.
Listen to the sure words on salvation spoken by the
Apostle Paul.
.. if you confess with your
mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has
raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner
I acknowledge that I have sinned
against You in word thought and deed.
But now Lord Jesus I turn away from ALL my sin and my
rebellion, and I turn to You alone as my Lord, and my
Saviour.
I believe that You shed Your
precious Blood and died on the cross for me - and that you rose again from the
dead - in order that I might be able to come home to Your Father,
and now my Father, as
a new born child of God.
I thankfully receive my complete
forgiveness through Your finished work on the cross and I ask You to fill me with the Holy
Spirit
From this moment on
I boast only of You as
"My Lord and my
God!"
Now tell someone!
Find a good church! Enjoy
being a child of God!
