• For some it is the lust for power. e.g. satanists  (sadly from experience I can say that some young people who read Christian testimony books such as 'From witchcraft to Christ' have missed the message and been attracted to the dark powers)
• For some it is the desire to communicate with someone who has died. (as a young man I fell into this trap when my wife died aged 23 - I attended a spiritualists 'church' for 2 months seeking answers)
• For some it is a desire to peek into the future. e.g. Tarot cards, fortune tellers
• For some it is the novelty of 'real' spiritual experiences  e.g. ouija boards, bloody Mary, levitation
• For some it is mild curiosity  e.g. reading the stars
• For some it is simply a magnetic drawing towards darkness and evil - usually because their is occult involvement in the generational line which leaves the following generations with 'iniquity' in this area which 'presses' them towards further involvement in their generation.
• Rock music e.g. Marilyn Manson, Black Sabbath, Kiss, etc all draw many young people into deep darkness. Many today go on to purchase a 'satanic Bible' and get drawn into one of the many new occult groupings
• Wrong friends at school who lead others into darkness through peer pressure.
• Childhood spiritual experiences never dealt with and treated as childish imagination.

The steps into demonic bondage

This diagram shows the spiritual bondage of someone who has been, or is still, an active participant in any form of occult practice.

They have at some stage submitted themselves - for a just a brief moment or a continual period - to an 'anointed' occult practitioner (such as a fortune teller, occult teacher, occult author, guru, high priest etc)

This initiates a 'soul tie' to that person - a bit like a spiritual phone line capabable of data transfer in the spiritual realm. 

(If the soul tie is also a sexual one then it becomes stronger - 'the two become one flesh')

(If an exchange of blood has taken place then the tie is stronger again - 'the life is in the blood')

God designed soul ties for good so that as we submit to one another in a Godly way there is a soul bonding - a comforting unity - a oneness of purpose.- a sense of belonging.

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love. Colossians.2:2

And as there is a Godly submission to His anointed apostles, prophets, teachers, pastors and evangelists there is a spiritual bonding, making a bridge by which the purposes of His Kingdom might be increased..

And not holding the Head, from which alt the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together. increaseth with the increase of God. Colossians 2:19

Scripture also talks of souls knit together in common purpose

So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man. Judges 20:11

or between close friends

And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David. and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 1st Samuel 18:1

Even with a stranger where there is a heartfelt offer of help

And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: 1st Chronicles 12:17

With brothers and sisters within the Body of Christ

- so it works exactly the same in satan's counterfeit kingdom.

Those who have submitted to anointed occult practitioners are 'soul tied' to them in the spiritual realm - until such time as the tie repented of and is 'loosed' on earth in Jesus' Name - so loosing it in the unseen heavenlies also.

And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19

Ritual binds people together and any occult ritual must be repented off and renounced [More]

There is also a oneness and a common purpose and a sense of belonging to others of like mind that the escaping person has to be loosed from.

Most serious occultists will have practiced out of body experiences often referred to by them as 'astral projection'  This practice must be confessed, repented of and renounced.

Any 'lords' or 'gods' that have been called upon in ritual must be renounced.

..make no mention of the name of other gods, nor let it be heard from your mouth  Exodus 22:13

There is an ungodly occult kingdom culture that is part of the counterfeit 'church'. Occult books, 'magic words', videos, candles, symbols, - even any specific clothes that may have identified with part of the occult culture (even with gothic, heavy rock etc,) these all must go.  There must be nothing of the old retained..

For the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you; therefore your camp shall be holy, that He may see no unclean thing among you, and turn away from you.  Deut. 23:14

These occult culture items must be destroyed - not stored away, given away, or sold.

Remember that Jesus will set you free from your enemies not your friends!

Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totalled fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.  Acts 19:19

Back to the occult practitioners - those people whom people go to for 'ministry'.   They derive their power for divination, healing, curses, harm etc from principalities and powers in the heavenlies. These powers outwork satan's kingdom to the masses through anointed 'ministers'.  

Contrary to much witchcraft teaching there is very limited power in 'soul power' otherwise ritual would not be necessary.  It is the use of demonic powers that are called into action through ritual that power is released. (e.g. 1 Kings 18 :27 -28)

Again, and again, and again, scripture tells us that what our ancestors have opened doors to will effect us for several generations. We see it with our own eyes as a reality every day. If there is clean water in the teapot then clean water comes out the spout. Drop a tea bag in and coloured water comes out. So with those who 'begot' us.  Clean in = clean out.  Dirt in = dirt out. 

God declares that His forgiveness and being 'cleared' of the consequences are two seperate issues.  This generational chart may help bring understanding.

No where will you see this more evident than with generational occult involvement.  

• Therefore thorough ministry must include confession of generational involvement

Both my father’s house and I have sinned. "We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses  Nehemiah 1:9

because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us  Daniel 9:16

• Forgiveness for opening us up to the consequences of their sin

          Our fathers sinned and are no more, But we bear their iniquities. Lamentations 5:7

• Cutting of ungodly generational ties that occult would seek to hold the children into bondage through.this generational bonding.

The occult  has its own culture and in a short space of time it has profound consequences on participants.  The slide from normal to abnormal can be quite rapid.  Signs that can point to occult activity in a persons life (especially young people) may include several or many of the following

• Fears - wearing necklaces for 'protection' or circles of salt at window
• Loss of interest in other activities
• Change of eating habits
• Falling grades
• Superstitions
• Fascination with magic, collecting herbs
• Occult drawings on books, notebooks - (see symbols)
• Drawings depicting cartoon type figures of gross mutilations, monsters, violence
• Dressing in dark colours or occultic /death t-shirts
• Decorating in dark colours
• Strong control over people
• Unnatural fear of certain friends
• Occult books & jewellery
• Recurring Nightmares / Insomnia
• Hearing voices
• Speaking in riddles
• Exhibiting a belief in their ability to exercise psychic powers
• Continually sensing of evil around them
• Withdrawn in normal company
• Suicidal
• Black fingernail (although in recent years this has now become a fashion)
• Boys growing long fingernails
• Deterioration in personal hygiene
• Writing with unusual letters (witches alphabet)
• Keeping a diary (called a Book of Shadows) filled with strange signs, symbols, drawings (pentagrams, 666, horned figures etc.), & written entries
• Poems speaking of blood, murder, Satan, evil, dying or mocking God
• An unusual interest in the Bible without a change in behaviour (many people read the Bible to learn about Satan or to blaspheme the Scriptures by mocking them or writing them backwards)
• Having of a copy of the "Satanic Bible" or "Satanic Rituals" by Anton LaVey, books by Aleister Crowley or books other books, magazines, comics or writings with heavy occult themes
• Interest in occult-related movies, video games
• Obsession with weapons, especially knives
• Obsession with fantasy role playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Tunnels and Trolls, etc.
• Threatening to kill others, especially parents
• He/she is called by a different name by friends
• Talking in rhyme
• Previously unnoticed cuts, marks, tattoos, or brands on the body (These are often in obscure places like the buttocks, genitals, breasts etc. and often on the left side of the body - though please note that people who deeply self reject and develop self hatred sometimes behave in a similar fashion)
• Eating raw meat
• Unusually violent rebellion
• Occult paraphernalia like bones, animal skulls, knives, candle (particularly black, red, white), pentagrams, hooded robes, etc.
• Evidence of animal torture or sacrifice
• Making 'pacts' with the devil, or in some cases, suicide 'pacts' with others

1. Invite Jesus to be LORD of each area of the person’s life. If Jesus is not Lord of all then He is not Lord at all.
2. Ensure that the person is in full agreement with God that all occult activity is an abomination, and that all soulish attraction to its ‘benefits’ has been thoroughly dealt with. Jesus will set you free from your enemies, not your friends!
3. Lead the person in prayer to deal with generational sin and iniquity in this area where parental or ancestral involvement in occult activities (charms, fortune tellers, etc) has opened doors into the family line producing a strong attraction (iniquity) to the occult realm.
4. Ensure that any occult items are / will be, removed from the persons home (occult books, films, souvenirs, regalia etc.) Ensure that the person is not wearing any occult jewellery.
5. Lead the person in a prayer of repentance for their personal involvement in occult, (especially ritual) and a renunciation of all satan’s works.
6. Cut demonic links to associated principalities and powers over the land.
7. Cut soul ties to any occult practitioners that have been submitted to (e.g. fortune tellers, occult teachers / authors, gurus, high priests etc.)
8. Cut soul ties to any known friends who are involved in occult practise. Cut yourself free from any personal objects or photos etc that such practitioners might have. (especially where such practitioners are deeply involved)
9. Separate all known (and as yet undealt with) occult kingdoms so that one cannot draw from another during ministry. (e.g. masonic / witchcraft / divination)
10. Bind the strongman (if known) and then cast out generational spirits and then ‘personal’ spirits, naming them as The Spirit of God may lead in prayer.
11. Ask Jesus to fill the vacated areas with His Spirit. Give thanks to God!
12. Minister healing into any areas of sickness or infirmity that may have been linked to occult roots in the person or their generational line.
13. Inform the person being ministered to that the enemy may (usually does) try to get back into ‘its house’ at some stage - usually between a one and three week period - and to recognise this as being an attack from outside not territory regained on the inside. Teach them to draw near to God and resist the enemy and he will flee

Sample prayer to deal with generational sin and iniquity. (Note: this does not cast out generational spirits, but it does cut them off from their roots)

Heavenly Father,

I thank you for my life.
I thank you for the ancestral line that You chose to bring me into this world through. I especially honour my father and mother.
While I honour them Lord, I do not agree with them in where they have sinned. I stand in full agreement with You Lord, in loving what is good and hating what is evil. All occult activity is evil.
Knowing from Your Word that the sins and iniquities of the fathers are visited upon the children, even to the third and fourth generation, I unreservedly forgive my forbearers for the effects which their involvement in occult activity has had upon my life.
Heavenly Father, as Your child, I claim that the power in the shed Blood of Jesus has set me free from all the ancestral iniquities and sins that have been visited upon me.
I proclaim that in the Divine exchange of the New Covenant Jesus bore all my iniquities sins and curses upon Himself - in order that I may go free.
By faith I now claim my freedom from the consequences of all occult activity in my father or mother’s family line, and especially their known involvement in (..name the occult activities here ) and I renounce the consequences of their sins off my life,

in Jesus’ Name.

Sample prayer for personal confession and repentance.

Heavenly Father,

Your Word says that if I confess my sins, You are faithful and just to forgive me, and to cleanse me from all my unrighteousness.
I confess that I have sinned against You by my involvement in (name the occult practices here ).
I ask You now to forgive me for these, and for any other occultic involvements that I have knowingly or unknowingly entered into.

I ask You Heavenly Father
In Jesus’ Name,

Sample 'declaration' renouncing satan’s works

(note this is not praying to satan!  This is a declaration to the powers of darkness)

satan, I hereby renounce you and all your works in my life!  I renounce all ritual that I or my parents or my ancestral line participated in.  I renounce all blood pacts, all vows and all assignments.

I, by an act of my will, and in the strength that Jesus Christ of Nazareth gives me, close those doors to you for ever.

I command you, in Jesus’ Name, to trouble me no more on these issues which have been confessed, repented of and from which I have been cleansed by the precious Blood of Jesus Christ.

Sample prayers prior to cutting soul ties with occult practitioners

Heavenly Father,

I choose not to touch the unclean things and I choose not to be yoked together with those who love and practise the unclean things.

I undertake to cleanse my camp from any items that are links to the powers of darkness and I ask You Holy Spirit to show me all the items that are links.
I also place the shed Blood of Jesus Christ between myself and any part of me, or any personal items belonging to me, or any images of me, that these occult practitioners might have in their possession. These are no longer links to me
I ask You to cleanse me from everything that has defiled my spirit, soul and body through occult involvement.
In Jesus’ Name.
